GAHH Breaks Ground on Final Don Pedro Padilla Home!

On Saturday, August 29th, GAHH broke ground on the final home to be built at Don Pedro Padilla. This home is being sponsored by the Catholic Presbyterian Coalition of Churches and the homeowners are Sandra and Roberto Estrada.

The Estrada Family with Carolyn and Marilyn from the Catholic Presbyterian Coalition, Mike Maurer (center-right in back), GAHH President and in the back (center-left) is Chris Lehman, GAHH Executive Director.

GAHH is very happy to be carrying out our mission in Albuquerque once again. We are grateful to the Catholic Presbyterian Coalition for being such exemplary partners with GAHH and we look forward to many more years of building with them.

After the slab was poured, members of the SWAT team assisted volunteers from the coalition in laying out the floor plan and preparing the wall base/top plates. When the 25-30 volunteers arrived on September 12 they found the site all ready for them.

After the morning safety briefing and prayer everyone worked with enthusiasm so that by ten o’clock walls were being erected.

Under sunny skies and light breezes the building proceeded quickly so that after lunch walls were up and exterior sheeting well underway.

By 1:30 p.m. House Captain Bob Rieden was ready for the volunteers to call it a day.

In a subsequent e-mail to the volunteers Bob said: “Thanks to all of you for a great day on Saturday. I had no idea we could complete so much in one day. You all did a great job! “
