If you are interested in learning more about this exciting program please review the qualifications below. Once you have read through the information and you feel that you meet all the criteria to become a Habitat Homeowner use the form at the bottom of this page to add your name to the Inquiry List.
Once you submit your contact information, a representative will call you at a later date to invite you to an orientation. Please be patient as there are many people on the inquiry list and orientations are held every 4 months.
PLEASE NOTE: GAHH builds approximately 4-6 houses per year, and only two homes at a time which means the list moves slow. Many people do not qualify due to credit and income issues – make sure you are competitive by following the instructions below.
#1 Debt to Income: Make sure you are not OVER extended on your debt. Your monthly debt divided by your monthly income should not exceed 31%. Credit is the number one reason why applicants do not qualify. We do not look at credit scores, but we need to know you will be a successful homeowner and the mortgage payment will be a priority.
#2 Stable income: You must meet the HUD income requirement range for “the number of people in the household.” GAHH will discuss with you the amount of people who will qualify as part of the household. Also, applicants must be employed in the same line of work for at least 12 months. Disability, SSI, alimony and child support are all examples of income as well. Food stamps, and student financial aid will not be counted as income.
#3 Applicants will be scored on the following: NEED, ABILITY TO REPAY THE DEBT, AND WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER. Families on the applicant list are provided an orientation and are educated on the application process. Those that qualify will be presented to the family selection committee and the Board of Directors for a vote. The two top scored families will be selected for the next two homes to be built.
#4 Sweat Equity and Willingness to Partner: Applicants selected must do a minimum of 550 hours of sweat equity on their home.
#5 Residency: To qualify to become a Habitat partner, families must have lived in the Albuquerque area for the last 12 months and be a U.S. citizen or have a permanent resident card. We do not eliminate applicants or discriminate because of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, handicap, family status, ethnicity, national origin, or public assistance as a source of income.
Please be sure you meet all criteria before you submit your information using the form below.
Everyone is encouraged to add their name for consideration.
