A home of our own

Women Build Dedication Celebrates Newest Habitat Homeowner

One year after breaking ground on the 2018 Women Build Home, Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion of the house and the newest Habitat homeowner, Nicole.

This past year Nicole has dedicated hundreds of hours to building her home all while raising a toddler on her own and working a full time job. “I know I’m not the only single mom struggling, but I have worked hard for everything in my life,” said Nicole when she first began her journey with Habitat a year ago. “This home means more than just getting a house. It reminds me that hard work and doing the right thing is rewarding, that women can do anything and we can achieve our goals and make dreams come true.”

The Women Build 2018 home, sponsored by Lowe’s, is the 13th affordable home to be dedicated in Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity’s Mesa del Rio development.

“There are no words to express as a single mother, out here on my own, how good it feels to be able to provide my daughter with a home of our own,” said Nicole during the dedication of her very first home. “I’m so excited to make memories and watch Snow grow up in our new home.”

Thank you to all the 2018 Women Build teams for volunteering and raising money to help build this home. And thank you to Wells Fargo and Bank of America for sponsoring the construction of the 2018 Women Build home.

Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity and provides the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities. Women Build Week in Albuquerque invites women in the community to lead a volunteer team during a week-long blitz build. Women-led teams raise money to help build the Women Build house, an affordable home for a low-income family. 2019 Women Build Week in Albuquerque is June 1 – June 8.
