ChristinaHappyKristina was born and raised in Albuquerque along with her 5 siblings. Life at home was not easy and she began working at the age of 14  in order to support herself. Unfortunately, Kristina needed to work full time and had to drop out of high school. However, she did find time later in her life to receive her GED. She said, “It wasn’t easy being on my own at such a young age. But it taught me life lessons such as how to be responsible.”Herrera.Kristina

When she was 18 she moved in with her ex-husband. Kristina says, “I was with him for 12 years and because of this relationship I was blessed with a beautiful daughter and adorable son. I thank God every day for these little blessings.”

About two years ago Kristina began attending Legacy Church on a regular basis. She said, “I have always believed in God, but never attended as much as I do now. It feels good to hear the pastors speak the words of the Bible and hear his encouraging words. It helps me cope with everyday life.”

Kristina is currently the Customer Service Manager at a local Bank where she has worked for several years. When asked about the opportunity to own a home through our program at Habitat, Kristina says, “Being a single mom with a full time job has made me a grateful person and realize how wonderful and precious life is. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am willing to do anything to make it possible. A place to call home is what we want.”

Kristina and her beautiful children moved into the Radke Celebration of Life House just before Christmas, on December 17, 2016. During the dedication celebration many friends and family gathered into Kristina’s new garage to keep warm and honor her with words of love and blessings. It was a lovely moment when the children were presented with their very own handmade quilts.

Congratulations on becoming a homeowner Kristina, you did it!
