On June 23, 2015 GAHH broke ground on the Pope Francis House, the first in the new 8-home Mesa del Rio project. The construction of the Pope Francis house was made possible by a $60,000 challenge grant from an anonymous supporter.

Partner Family, Mother Renee and daughter Adelina

Renée learned about the Habitat program from a neighbor 15 years ago, but once she decided to apply it only took about a year to be accepted as a Partner Family.

Renée, a cooking enthusiast, was most excited for her new kitchen that will be large enough to prepare dinners for her entire family. Renée felt a longing to give her children everything she had growing up and now feels proud knowing that she can provide a stable home for her daughter.

During her home dedication celebration Renée was overcome with emotion and with tears streaming down her face she managed to say a few words, “This would not have been possible without all of these people. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey. This home is a new beginning for me and my family. I am so humbled by all I have been blessed with. My most profound thanks must go to the Lord for providing me this strong foundation and my children and grandchild.”
